Gruesome! Gruesome! Gruesome!

The Choose Life play was originally written by the inmates of HMP Liverpool in 1997. The original script was only 10 minutes long but has undergone a number of changes over the years. These changes were made to include changes in attitude from young people as well as to address a number of issues such as; smoking, under age drinking, unprotected sex and the potential risks. The play also demonstrates the impact of drug use on family relationships and children.

The first scene is spent highlighting many of the issues and situations that many of our young people find themselves in, such as; bullying, manipulation, and peer pressure etc

Billy looks back in time and wonders  where did it all go wrong?  What started out out as ''a laugh'' turned into a life of drug addiction, crime, seperation, jail, and unhappiness.

Joey and Billy outside the off license asking an old lady to go in and buy a bottle of cider for them!

The old lady wouldn't do it, so they ask Washer, the local  drunk to go in for them.

After Washer hears Joey telling Billy and Maureen that they won't ever have any problems like ''that stinky 'ol tramp'', Washer comes out of role and talks soberly, and passionately about how alcohol has ruined his life and dreams to the audience.

The local drug dealer, Mack the knife, enters the scene to sell drugs to Joey, Billy and Maureen.

Mack the knife sees an opportunty to recruit Joey into his business!

Time has moved on! Billy is arguing with Maureen on a prison visit because she hasn't smuggled drugs in for him.

Billy's released from prison after spending months in the prison rehab. He's finally drug free, and feeling good about life for the first time an many years.

While on his way to meet Maureen and his son, Billy has a chance meeting with his old drug dealer, Mack the knife.

As Mack the knife wishes him ''all the best mate'' he slips his phone number into Billy's hand, knowing that it will be difficult for him to resist using it! Will he be able to resist? Time will tell!
